More by accident than design, the Ben Lomond night jaunt saw a bunch of stuff make it’s debut, Mostly because it was the first thing I saw when I got home and started packing.
Tha Haglöfs Grym boots got their first trip with crampons (Grivel Air Tech Light) and they did well. The ascent was issue-free, [...]

It’s like visiting a friends house, or your granny. Sure, it might not be exciting this time, it might just be cuppas and some telly, but you know that you’ll be welcome, time will pass at whatever pace it likes and you’ll be immune to any outside influence or interference for the duration.
I watched the [...]

It’s bloody miserable out there. Cold too, and not that nice frosty cold, it’s a damp cold that you suck in with every breath, it lingers inside you, sapping your enthusiasm and draining joy reserves.
What of Creag Meagaidh? What indeed. I can’t face the drive without knowing I’ve got a good chance of it being [...]

One again I’m sitting here at the last minute, ankle deep in bank statements doing absolutely anything other than actually filling in the blanks on my online tax return.I looked in the cupboard to see if Moira Stewart was going to give me some words of encouragement, but all I found was biscuits. That’s probably [...]

After a quiet year on the gear front, OMM is coming back with a bunch of new lightweight kit.The pack range will stay much the same until 2011, and the brilliant new-style Kamleika models also remain, but there will be more clothing options now to make OMM a proper multi-use one-stop brand for lightweight outdoor pursuits.

As I’ve said many times, it’s not the manufacturers that decide what we get to see, it’s the store buyers. No forward orders and the left field, the interesting and the expensive get dropped and we’re all left bitching about what we do find in the shops, and then then logo attached to it. The North Face are [...]

The forecast looked less than perfect for getting photies of Creag Meagaidh over the weekend, so I spent Friday night singing songs with Holly, making up stories and generally keeping her up way past her bedtime instead of packing for an overnighter. Joycee got out to play with her pals last night too, and a long [...]

While I was down at the Lakes I nipped into see Haglöfs because as Gus pointed out at the shed last month I still hadn’t tried on the new OZO as all he’s had to show folk were wummins versions.
So now I’ve been dancing about the showroom in one I can say that it isn’t [...]

This week has been all about gear. I was two days down south at showrooms in the Lakes and Lancaster seeing stuff I’ve never seen before and some from brands I’ve never met before either. Plenty surprises in amongst it all. That’s all coming soon, but yesterday I was through at Silva’s UK offices with Bobinson to [...]

Ages back I saw a sample of Haglöfs Lizard Top and I was immediately impressed. It looked a little left-field, it had a price-tag of £100, and I did wonder if the store-buyers would “get it”, leading to a lack of orders and the Lizard disappearing under a rock.Well, I’m happy to report I have a Lizard Top here for test [...]

I’m in all on my own, and I should really be packing my bags for tomorrow’s trip down to the Lakes, but I find myself sitting with a cuppa and getting all wistful instead.
I’ve been looking at maps which have been sparking as many memories as they have moments of inspiration. I’ve had a DVD [...]
