I met up with the guys from Inov-8 today after the launch of their Offroad Running Centre at Run4it, upstairs at the GOE Tiso in Glasgow.
The lowdown is that Run4it now have the biggest selection of Inov-8 kit in Scotland, it’s all there from a wall of shoes (his and hers) to the packs & bumbags, gaiters, [...]

The weather says no. And I’m kinda disappointed.
Today I actually, properly realised that I really miss being out there, the sights, the sounds, the cold fingers and nose that you get at this time of year, 7am cuppas at 900m. Time has skipped forward a big chunk without me noticing, and I feel a little melancholy.
I’m [...]

For the recent West Highland Way weekender, the team on foot were equipped with Trail Blaze poles courtesy of Mountain King.
As they wandered into Tyndrum, one of the first things I heard was that the poles had got one pair of feet to the half way point and had kept the other pair happy. We’ll be coming [...]

I’m a great believer in performance for all. By that I mean that top that top-end gear with the best fabrics, kit designed for athletes and racers that should still be considered by you and I for general use because it’s usually been pared down to the bare essentials and it’s made as light as possible. But [...]

I’ve often harped on about down vests and how handy they are, but it’s all true. It’s the best insulation piece you can carry if you’re looking at warmth for weight.
Just in from PHD is the Minimus down vest. This version has a Drishell outer for a bit of water resistance.
For such a wee and light bit of [...]

The Slopes came back out recently after it started wetting wet again, and it’s high time we had a wee update.
The fit was a little strange at first, I though the toe was narrow, but it’s tapered which is different. It’s still wide enough, but lower volume, which reminded me a bit of an old pair [...]

This arrived just to late to use last winter, but I’ve had it out on a few cooler and drizzly days and now that the skies are getting grey it’ll be oot and aboot more regularly.
The Viper !! is one of Haglöfsmany softshells, and sits in the middle of the range in weight, protection and [...]

This is something that was long overdue, and luckily Rab have made the jump.
It’s a minimalist lightweight smock made from eVent. It’s got good length on the arms and body, a slim-ish fit with good arm movement, hem adjustment and elasticated cuffs.
The hood has a wired peak, with a regular drawcord around the face and an exposed [...]

I’ve used Smartwool baselayers for years, but they’ve taken merino into ever more technical territory in recent times and the Zip T and Crew are from the NTS Sport range which has a more engineered, slimmer fitting cut.
The fabric weight is 220g/m², a little heavier that the year-round standard of 190/200, which makes it a good choice for [...]

I tried on a 2010 Super Druat the KORS trade show and immediately tried to remember why I’d sold my original on ebay.
It’s a lightweight mountain jacket, cut from the king of waterproof membrane’s: eVent. We have three chest pockets, the centre one of which is huge, a multi adjustable and roll-away protective hood and there’s good [...]
