Straight out of the box for test on my midweek jaunt to Beinn an Dothaidh were the Haglöfs Crags. They come with the new Sole insoles ready fitted and after my recent good fortune pulling the same trick with the Escape Ventilators, I laced them up at the carpark and set off. But, these are [...]

“What are you up to?” “How?” “I’ve got to take some hours, and I’m thinking of heading out” “It’s looking nice right enough, I can get away and I need photies of that Big Agnes tent” “Let’s go” “Alright!” We’d planned to camp on Beinn an Dothaidh ages back, but we ended up somewhere else, [...]

Looks like I timed my Kintail trip just right, as a week later LAMM competitors were running around the same tracks that I was trying to look all dramatic and windswept on. Good choice of location, and there would have been some tired legs at the event campsite with the amount of ascent and descent. [...]

I’ve mentioned Sole insoles briefly as all Haglöfs footwear now comes with them installed, but Sole has a wide range of insoles and more and I’ve got some in for test. The heat moldable insoles in the Haglöfs footwear are a customised Softec Regular, and in for test I have the Softec Ultra (black insoles above) [...]

I can’t remember the last time i wore shorts on a big hill day, and I don’t think I’ve ever worn them when I was wild camping. Since the 70′s anyway. The thought of wearing a short sleeved t-shirt on an overnighter was regularly dismissed until last week proved it to be a mighty fine option [...]

There’s new Intense bunnets as well, the beanie on the left found favour on my napper, but the skipped version on the right is for younger and less weather beaten outdoor activist than myself… The samples of the new shoes hadn’t arrived, but they look good in the workbook. There are a couple of new models, [...]

Once again I made the hazardous journey to the secret shed of wonders to meet Gus and see what Haglöfs kit we’ll be wearing in a year’s time. There’s been a huge revamp, and not just colours either, designs have been tweaked or replaced by entirely new models and the wummins “Q” range has taken on a life [...]

I have returned from the future, and it looks like this… Yes, that’s purple in there. More very soon.

There were some usual suspects, some new faces and some guest appearances in my kit list at the weekend. First mention has to go to my Montrail Streaks. These are just a stunningly good shoe, and despite heat which was sitting over 35°C (deadly to most Scotsmen) my feet were completely trouble free, even to the [...]

Logistics? That’s just “plan” with a velvet jacket on. But, we had to work to a plan with deadlines, availability and weather standing across the door with their arms folded. And then of course…it was late by the time I left… The journey up to Kintail was a bloody nightmare. I spent more time on the right [...]
