Now there’s a selection of words that are unfamiliar on the same swing tag. I’m having my first real taste of Páramo and I’m straight in with this brand new special edition of the Velez Adventure.
I wanted to test the Velez Adventure because of its fixed hood and the slimmer cut that the Velez models come [...]

FedEx have just been, and the Páramo test and review kit is here. At the last minute, my Velez was switched for a Velez Adventure Special Edition Lightweight.
It’s a new lighter Nikwax Analogy fabric and the smock will only be available in Páramo’s London store until it goes into general distribution next year. This red and [...]

We went for a bimble in the Kilpatricks. That was the plan, but it turned out to be a 7 hour extravaganza as we explored and zigzaged over the assorted tops, through the assembled bogs, across the heathery moorland and finally along the viewsome Lang Craigs above Dumbarton.
The weather was changeable, from a light shower [...]

Yes taxi driver, sit there and press your horn. I’m sure the sound will pass right though all the surrounding buildings, missing out everyone but the intended target whom it will pick out with the accuracy a snipers bullet.
Oh wait, actually it’s everybody who can hear it. Apparently except for whoever it was that phoned for [...]

I’ve been watching some classic proper Doctor Who on the SciFi channel today. I still think of Peter Davison as the new Doctor.
When she’s a wee bit bigger, I wonder if Holly will find something like the Doctor Who cards I collected from Weetabix packets in 1975 (Mr Dalek to the left) to collect and get all [...]

Your tent has to be a wee home from home. Fannying about, struggling with adjustments and not being relaxed means that the whole point of being there is being lost in a fog of shite gear.
The ruffled blue affair you see above is a Mont Bell Ultralight Superstretch DownHugger #4. This hits the markers for simplicity and [...]

I’ve taken a long time to make up my mind about the Gregory z35-r. But, I’ve finally got a handle on it.
Tha carry is the important thing, and here it’s right on the money. I was intially suspicious of both the air-gap back system and the prominent lumbar pad, but it works well. I quickly lost the [...]

The general perception is that American lightweight shelters are all made of tissue and will shrivel like the Wicked Witch of the West with a drop of water or a slight breeze. But I’ve always had good results with the Big Agnes kit so I wasn’t that perturbed to start carrying the Seedhouse SL1 into the hills.
The [...]

I just got home and the phone went. I put my boots back on and went to the callout.
I did get it fixed, but it was late now and I was close to eating the rubber handles from my gland pliers, what else was I to do. You have to run the gauntlet of MacDonalds, Pizza Hut, [...]

You know the score, the Mars Planets aligned to provide me with a weather window, an extreme desire to be in a tent with a cuppa and three distinctly different yet oddly similar chocolate coated centres.
I was making my way up Ben Lomond in the fading light. I chose Ptarmigan ridge as it’s the best route and [...]

I had a lots of comms when I first featured these, and a lot of comms since asking how they were doing.
Well, the biggest point to note is that they’re completely different to the Gore lined 390’s. The only similarities my feet found are the visual ones.
The whole boot is softer, more supple. This includes [...]

I first looked at these a while back. Since those youthful days these have been worn many times in a variety of situations from sitting in cafes, to bimbles, to day hikes and overnighters. Their first real test was at the fantastic Cluanie camp where we got roasted under the sun and chilled in equal [...]
