Toot, toot! We're the snoots! Yugo and Migo!

Last chance

Done my last distance training run yesterday around the Ardgarten Peninsula. It didn’t go as well as the last time. I went anticlockwise and made good time round to Lochgoilhead but then I decided to find this track next to Donich Water that I remembered from years back that was never on a map. It’s [...]

Done and Dusted, Optimus and Dale.

My exams are done. Passed 100%. That’s not trying to be gallus, you have to get that mark or you don’t pass. And I did have to have two goes at a couple of questions over the last couple of days. You can tell the people who write the questions aren’t engineers, what with their fancy big [...]

Boof

Weekend, quickly.

Pockets

I’ve hardly worn a shell jacket with standard chest pockets over the last year and a half. I’m more used to single centre positioned chest pockets or the Napoleon pockets on the Spitz. I think it’s because when I’m cutting about on a mountain I don’t really want to put my hands in my pockets on some [...]

My (un)musical past

A recent brief encounter with an old friend brought all this to mind. So a day at home with a cold and with an uncommited eye on studying it meant that I did something pointless instead. So I made a MySpace page. It must be the must user unfriendly sites I’ve ever used. Still, some of my old tunes are [...]

Return by route of ascent

I hate those words. How many times have you read that in a guide book? It makes me suspiscious of the author. They’re either free of the inconvenience of imagination, or only interested in ticking the top and getting home as quickly as possible. As guide books are many people’s main point of reference (especially in unfamiliar [...]

A bracing walk

I spent the day walking round the Ardgarten Peninsula. It’s around 24 miles of forest track, high open moorland trails, with views of quiet lochs and seldom trodden peaks, plantation and indigenous woodland with incredibly rugged hillsides, there’s constant interest. There’s even a half way pit stop at Lochgoilhead. I had a few reasons for being there, [...]

Haglöfs LIM 45, first look

It was looking shaky for a minute, but the new LIM 45 pack has arrived in time for the WHW. I’ve been using OMM packs almost exclusively for a couple of years and the thought of getting to grips with something so completely different is a little daunting. We saw a pre production model last year and it [...]

NHS 24

Not impressed. Not amused.

It’s the little things…Optimus

The neighbours think I’m looking at them, but they should know by now that I’m only looking out for the postman. The good folks at Optimus have sent some of their new cookwear this way. I’ll cover it all later once it’s been out and about, hopefully I’ll get some of it on the WHW [...]

Actual excuse

So, I got my assessment dates from College today. They would be the 27th and 28th of March. The 28th was ringing a bell all day…. So the WHW will be actually be on the next weekend after that, I’ll away on the 4th of April. Definite. My twingey foot will be fine by then as [...]

Potential excuse

I haven’t trained this weekend. I was on a for a 20-30 miler today, but I couldn’t go. My foot got twinged during the week at work, wearing boots, and this weekend it has been loupin’ and indeed a little swollen. We’ll see what tomorrow brings.

Rab Quantum Top Bag AR, first look

This is Rabs update to their previous top bag. The most obvious difference is the hood, in that it has one. It’s designed for adventure racers so there is as little faff and weight as possible. This translates right over to lightweight backpacking of course. No insulation on the bottom other than under the head and [...]
